Waited here for 2.5hrs in hopes of getting a lift onto the A14/ Cambridge. I think it would have been better to get off at a motorway junction and take a A road further north. Lots of lifts going along the M1

A great spot, but if you are heading towards Cambridge, be aware that you can use both the part going north and south. There is a bridge between them for easy crossing. I needed to go for Bedford, but got a ride just to the ramp and continued from there.

A pretty good gas station, if you need a ride towards Cambridge or London. I got a ride in a moment. There is a lot of traffic.

I would very much advice you not to hitchhike from this place. I tried red light hitchhiking, it worked for me before, but not here. The lights changes fast, so there is no time to stop and for direction Cambridge the traffic is pretty weak as well. I had to walk to a nerby gas station like 6 kilometers and it was not a pleasant experience in scorching summer heat. But if you have to walk to the same gas station as I did, don't use Google maps, you can easily walk around the farms, it's only private property when it comes to cars and it's easily walkable.

I stood on central isle with a sign Cambridge. I got a car to New Market. This spot is decent, cars have to stop and it's your direction. For the British standards this is a good one.

Have done thid spot a couple times and with a 'Cambridge' sign we(Male & Female) seem to get lifts faster than it took to make the sign

Waited for just over 2 hours for a lift on a Friday morning, trying two different signs - M11s / SOUTH. 2 cars stopped before but were heading the wrong way. Good flow of traffic but very few heading onto the M11 southbound, only 1 car every 30s took the junction. People tend to use J12 higher up to leave Cambridge, although harder to find somewhere to stand.

Pretty decent spot for heading south out of Hamilton, we only got a lift to Cambridge but I'm sure you can get a lift much further out to Taupō or Rotorua. Plenty of space for cars to pull over and the traffic isn't too fast.

We were trying to hitchhike, no one was stopping and a guy called us a cab to Cambridge and payed for it (God bless him) I guess hitchhiking is dead in 2023.

Well you are hitchhiking behind the highway sign so not a good position. But a good way to get to Cambridge and on.

Never hitched from this spot before, but loads of traffic heading to London/Cambridge, and a good layby to pull in.

Direction Cambridge. Great spot - there's a long enough parking space for the cars to pull aside. They are slowed down by the junction before, so more time to decide. Only downside is it's still London so cars might not go far.

Direction Cambridge. Not perfect, but at least there are 2 lanes, so if somebody stops, he doesn't block the road. Got ride in 5 mins.

Direction Cambridge, got ride in 5 mins. There's a bus stop, so a carr which has stopped doesn't block the road

I stood few meters back on the corner of petrol station so that cars came out on my right and passed by (slowed down) on my left. Went to St Albans (west) (had my sign) and nobody seemed to go there - got picked up by a guy who had just come from there and was kind enough to make a big detour. However I saw many drivers pointing east and many of the drivers questioned in the petrol station before that mentioned Cambridge. So that direction might be much luckier.

Heading East along the A14 towards cambridge- there is space for a vehicle to stop and its straight after the roundabout so the traffic isn't too fast.
BUT traffic can be VERY heavy on this road, so it may be difficult to get a lift at rush hour.
